Our Team
Hello! We are the Set-up Sensei team, a group of ambitious young people who met at UWC Atlantic in Wales. We are passionate about martial arts and its potential to improve mental health. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the benefits of martial arts, regardless of their location or financial situation. Our mobile app will provide a convenient and affordable way for people to learn martial arts and improve their mental health. We are excited to share our app with the world and help people live happier, healthier lives.

Chair Director
ARJUN DIWAKER
I was thrilled to join Set-Up Sensei in September as I believe in martial arts as a way to strenghten your own mental health: something I do myself too. Set-Up Sensei requires me to think about accessible solutions in all forms. As I'm really in an all-round position, it often requires know-how in multiple sectors. Sometimes I need to work a bit harder to keep up with certain topics that seem easy to experts, but it is mostly great fun and I love what I learn from it!

Lead Programmer
Robbie Walmsley
As the sole programmer at Set-Up Sensei, I lead the development of an AI-driven application aimed at democratizing martial arts training. Drawing from my personal experience with Kempo Karate and MMA, I work to create accessible, user-focused solutions that allow practitioners to improve their techniques with real-time feedback powered by sensor analysis. This app enables users to receive personalized coaching, regardless of their skill level.
One of my key contributions has been the complete rebuild of the IMU SDK, establishing a robust foundation for sensor integration and precise motion tracking. My role often demands a blend of skills across various disciplines, and while it requires stepping into areas that sometimes go beyond my expertise, I find the challenges and continuous learning incredibly rewarding.

Founder, Trustee
Paul Rempe
My own experience in martial arts helps me in everyday things. I have done jiujitsu and judo for several years, which taught me a lot about keeping calm under stressful circumstances and dealing with occasional defeat. When Sep and I were sketching the outlines of our idea in Set-Up Sensei's early days, I was confronted by the fact that I can't solve someone else's problems. Working on Set-Up Sensei makes me realise that we can only assist others in gathering the mental toolbox to win their own 'battles'. This shaped Set-Up Sensei's current format, to check the boxes by the NHS: confidence, resilience, trust, exercise, social life, purpose and discipline.

Founder, Research Team Leader
Sep Menzing
After working on multiple tech-solution projects, it was a new but welcome challenge to design the original design for the Set-Up Sensei App and our flagship product: Sensei Steve. In past research, my team has assessed how high cost, distance and the lack of leisure time make martial arts very inaccessible in the UK. Designing an app that covers the solution to all these factors, rather than just one, made it often hard to know where to begin. However, by analysing every root of every factor and breaking it up into different research topics, we can still provide the other teams with spot-on research.

Former Development Team Leader
KILLIAN CHIKWENE
As a martial artist I have first hand experience in seeing how taekwondo made me more confident and resilient. This helps me in my everyday activities, ranging from school to social life. Although I love high tech solutions, sometimes the simple, obvious solutions are the best. Set-Up Development Team often requires me to stop my thoughts for a minute and think about the easy and affordable changes that could bring the brainstorming session on a different track. It keeps surprising me how small fundamental changes can shape new solutions and better ways to do things.
